Menus

Before building your CommCare forms, you will need to decide what kind of form you would like to build, and how to nest them within your menu. This page describes how you these forms, menu types, and menu settings differ.

Important note about naming: Since users will navigate the application using form and menu names, ensure that all names clearly describe what the menu or form does, are brief (can fit on the phone screen), and consistent (e.g. all registration forms are named the same thing).

Menu Types

Before you build a CommCare form, you will need to decide what kind of menu you want your form to be nested in. Your options include the following

When you select a case list, your application will always start with a registration form. In building out other forms, you have the option to select another registration or follow-up form.

Menu Settings

All menu types can be managed in Menu Settings. To find Menu settings, click, the top-level menu item and it will bring you to the settings.

Menu settings look different depending on the menu item that you have selected. The example above is a Survey Menu, where the only settings that exist are related to https://dimagi.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/commcarepublic/pages/2143956242 .

The Case List Menu has more settings, since it includes settings related to setting up case management criteria. These include:

  • Menu: This is where you define your case management parameters, including your case type

  • Multimedia: Like Surveys, this is related to

  • Case List & Case Details: On these two tabs, you can define and configure your case management settings, as described here:

And then the shadow menu settings look like whatever type of menu you selected - either survey or case list!
